How long will it take?

If you would like something that’s truly bespoke, it will take time to design and handcraft your jewellery. Each piece is individual and timelines can vary, however, here is a guide to how long things generally take to hand make.

Timeline Guide

You’re excited about your new piece of jewellery and want to get going. But how long will it take to design and make?

Each project is unique, so use this as a rough guide. We don’t charge for a consultation, coming to see us with some details for your actual project will allow us to give you a more accurate timeline and price.

Design Consultations

These are free of charge and last an hour, please let us know if you need more time.

You can book an appointment to see Sam or Louise in person at our Shaftesbury Design Studio and enjoy chatting over a cup of tea or coffee with some biscuits or cake. Or you can have a telephone or video call consultation if you prefer.

We can work via phone and post if you aren’t local to us. If you are unable to come and see us, we can arrange a private collection or delivery of your jewellery through our trusted partner Malka Amit.

CAD and Design Work

Our CAD design work generally takes 1-2 weeks to complete. A CAD starts from £165 for a brand new design, this includes two design changes being made. The more design changes you would like made, the longer your final design will take to realise.

We never rush you to make decisions, if you would like to think about your design for a few days, thats completely okay with us.

You can simply order a CAD design to get started and once your design has been finalised, Louise can confirm your timeline and price.

This is a good option if you don’t have concrete design ideas at the very beginning.

Bespoke jewellery in gold or platinum.

Each bespoke design using all new materials is individually hand crafted, and this takes time.

Casting generally takes 2 weeks, then your precious metal needs ‘cleaning up’. This is where the texture from casting is filed and polished up to a high shine.

Most jewellery is cast in separate pieces, to allow our Goldsmith’s to get their tools and files into every nook and cranny for a good ‘clean up’. These pieces are then soldered together.

The next step in to set any gemstones into your custom jewellery.

Allow 3-4 weeks for clean up, assembly and setting.

Hallmarking is a 5 working day service so allow a week for this to happen.

Louise will be able to give you an estimate on costs if you send your ideas over to her.

Every single creation begins with a simple conversation – book an appointment at our Design Studio in Shaftesbury.

Reworking your gold

  • To hand make a wedding band from your own gold takes 3-4 weeks, your gold is melted back to an ingot and then hand rolled into the correct shape to form your ring. This gives you the strongest profile and more luxurious feel.
  • To cast one of our signet ring designs with your own gold would take 3-4 weeks, you would need 100 grams of gold for this to work.
  • Gemstone setting takes 1-2 weeks.
  • Laser Engraving takes 1 week, once the artwork is signed off.
  • An anxiety spinner ring made in your own gold would take 3-4 weeks.
  • To re-hallmark your own gold after it has been reworked takes 1 week.

Ring sizing

Ring sizing is one of our most popular types of alteration work.

To size your ring up or down a few sizes will take 2-3 weeks.

  • To solder a broken link in a chain or bracelet would take 1-2 weeks.
  • Cleaning and polishing your jewellery would take 1-2 weeks.
  • Restringing pearls fully knotted is 1-2 weeks.
  • Refurbishing antique jewellery can take 6 weeks, depending upon what’s involved in the refurb.
  • A new 1/4 or 1/2 shank (band) on a ring is 2-3 weeks.

Supplying/cutting and setting gemstones takes time, re-cutting your own gemstone to make it sparkle again takes 3-4 weeks.

Sourcing special gemstones takes time, this is affected by the rarity of your request, allow a few weeks to source unusual gems.

  • We can offer servicing, refurbishment and polishing to antiques and older watches, this generally takes 4-5 weeks.
  • Sorry, we cannot re-waterproof watches.

Memorial and Celebration Jewellery

Once your gold or silver jewellery has been made, Sam will start her resin work. She will respectfully hand-place your precious ashes, hair, fur, flowers, breastmilk, into resin.

After choosing your base colour and glitter, it takes 2-3 weeks to complete your jewellery. Your resin jewellery needs to cure for 7 days in a dark and dust-free environment, plus a further two days for a varnish topcoat afterwards.
